Friday's Connector: Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton was infamously dubbed the celebrity that became famous by simply doing nothing, but after a few years in the limelight, the hotel heiress hasn't let her fame go to waste.

Paris Hilton is your Connector of the Day.

Paris Hilton is your Connector of the Day.

Since breaking out as a target for photographers and magazine editors, the 29-year-old American has already had the opportunity to star in her very own television series, create her own line of perfume and even record an album.

Part of the famed family that founded Hilton hotels, Paris has been no stranger to the spotlight.

At an early age, Paris was friends with socialites including Nicole Richie and Kim Kardashian - one of which she later starred in a reality show called "The Simple Life."

Paris has also had the opportunity to star in films including "House of Wax" and "The Hilz".

But while Paris has been a well-known personality on the celebrity circuit, she has shifted her focus from the red carpe to working with charitable organizations.

Most recently, Paris has teamed up with a charity called "Songs for Soldiers" which aims to provide every American service member in active duty in Afghanistan or Iraq, with a MP3 music player.

Paris was named the celebrity ambassador for the organization and said that once the goal is reached that she hopes to be part of a trip overseas to deliver the music players.

Each player will be pre-loaded with a number of songs from artists that have donated their music.

Hello Paris Whitney Hilton and CNN friends,

What is your opinion on the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq? What is your opinion on the gays and lesbians who are working in the army?

    Hey Paris,

Do you call this a charity? charity is helping the people who are in need of the necessities, even the most basic ones.Charity is helping poor children in Africa , charity is helping the most deserted ones , charity is something big.It is a noble thing. It is being beside humanity like Mother Teresa. When are you going to grow a brain? I wish God will help you.No one denies you are beautiful !!!

I am curious as to how the MP3 player is going to help the children starving in Iraq, Afghanistan and the rest of the world. It seems to me that providing an MP3 player to soldiers as a "charity" is more of a political move than anything else. As an ex-serviceman, I find that kind of "charity" insulting. Why not contribute the money to the military reservists who lost limbs and get worse treatmemt than people who did not serve in Iraq or Afghanistan merely because they are "only" reservists? Providing something worthwhile to the soldiers (like decent medical care) would be a much better outlet for charity work. Or is it you have a problem with meeting soldiers with missing arms, legs, eyes, ears, and so forth?

    Dear Paris,
Get your priorities right. While its good to consider soldiers on the war front, please spend some time (and money) on stopping child trafficking, reorientation programs for childrensand see the change some years down the line.

Will this MP3 player also be packaged with free downloads from iTunes or any other music providing service? Although I appreciate the effort, it's tough to listen to an empty MP3 player.

Please people – Paris has donated her time and money along to so many charities. I bet this is far more then you.

It makes me angry when people complain about celebrities – who fund and donate and contribute to far more charities and organizations then people realise.

Dear Paris, I'd be lost without my MP3; who better to give them to than our soldiers. So what do you do when you are bored? Love your show!

Do you regret being famous and well known and would you ever rather be a person out of the spot light? What would you be doing if you weren't famous.

POOR CHILDREN IN AFRICA? WHY SHOULD WE GIVE ANYMORE THAN WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE TO THE CHILDREN OF AFRICA? DO WE NOT HAVE POOR CHILDREN IN OUR OWN COUNTRY? SHOULD WE WORRY NOT ABOUT OUR OWN COUNTRY, BUT WORRY FOR OTHERS INSTEAD? I AM SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT HELPING THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES BEFORE HELPING OUR OWN I COULD SCREAM.

What is special about Miss Hilton other than the fact that she is rich and according to the article "was friends with socialites"? Can CNN not find some really special people to have on contact? This is one programme I shall not watch. It will be pathetic.

    Hello Paris,

Do you think the federal response the the Gulf coast oil spill has been adequate; what would you do differently and what would be your suggestions for how to mitigate the impact of the spill on the Gulf coast area economy? I figure I would ask because I'm asking everyone because that's just how serious the situation is, all kidding aside if you've thought about the topic before just throw something out there, who knows it may work...

Also I'm a member of the USAF serving in Italy and I'm rather indifferent to your charity initiative, its been my experience that Airmen and soldiers appreciate visits and concerts more than anything, donate the MP3 players to impoverished children and take a trip the the Persian gulf, Europe and Southeast Asia. You sing right? They would like that more than getting something most of us already own and probably own a better model of.

    Hello Paris

All the best to you for your efforts & taking out time to consider charity work. Atleast you have given a thought to attend such affected areas and people...
there are hundreds of celebretis but nobody has the time to think beyond thereselves.
WHY CANT OTHER STARS FROM MEDIA OR SPORTS CAN ATTEND AFRICAN CRISIS ....??????
It would not be justified that we criticise to one who atleast has shown some soft corner for the affecties.....

    Best of luck
