Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji has been dubbed the Julia Roberts of Africa by millions of fans on the continent and now she's trying to make a name for herself in the west.

Genevieve Nnaji is your Connector of the Day.

Genevieve Nnaji is your Connector of the Day.

The 31-year-old Nigerian born Nnaji is the fourth of eight children and had the opportunity to attend the University of Lagos where she acted in a number of Nollywood productions.

Nigeria has one of the world's biggest film industries and produces even more movies each year than the United States.

The industry outputs more than 200 movies each month and is estimated to be worth more than $250 million.

Nnaji started acting at the age of eight and had her first stint in the spotlight in the television soap opera "Ripples."

One of her first big Nollywood films was the movie "Most Wanted" and the rest is history. Nnaji went on to star in a number of highly successful movies and is generally considered to be one of the best paid actresses in Africa.

Here's your chance to ask one of the biggest stars in Africa your questions.

Do you want to know what it is like working in the Nollywood film industry? Interested to know what films or actors she admires in Hollywood?

Please leave your questions for Nnaji below and be sure to include where you're writing from.

Genevieve, being an actress/ model in Africa, (especially sub Saharan) for sure is one of major risk factors for HIV/AIDS transmission (to the mentioned group), because you become popular (and usually beautiful) so every one wants to be with you. What measures you take personally to avoid those challenges and what is your advice to other female celebrities in Africa.

    I am from Tanzania.

    Hello Genevieve,

1). About 8 years ago when I lived in Cameroon, rumour had it that you have Cameroonian roots. Is that true?

    2. Do you think you could do something as a leading Nigerian actress to create relations between Nollywood and the Cameroonian film industry?

    Thank you.

hi. i have always been a big fan of yours and am proud that Nigeria can produce talents such as you. my question is this, we produce and release a lot of films, but a while lot of them seem to be too fetish, diabolical or really do not distinguish between child and adult viewers. how do you hope to help to sanitize this industry and correct these points?

Won´t it be a good idea to make a movie about/dealing on the consequence and disadvantages, Nigeria and Africa at large are having and still will be having as result of Gangster/kidnappers and their activities in the Eastern part of Nigeria?

I was there 2 times this year and men, its terrible, All my guys in Europe and America don´t want to come back home aand visit their relatives.. Is that not pathetic!!!

    Hello Genevieve,

First of all I would like to congratulate you on your success thus far, as I know how difficult it for women to maintain dignity in a male dominated industry.

We hear and see loads of negative things about Nigeria in the media, and while we know there are many positive attributes; they're usually overshadowed by the negative.

When you look at Nigeria, what do you see?
What must Nigerians do to change international perception of its image?
    How can Nollywood do that?

about D'banj? What do you want Genevieve to say? Is she D'banj? Is

she his Mom? His sister maybe? Just leave it as it is.

Whether she wants to tell everyone who she is BANGING is her

business alright! This question has been asked toooo many times.

Hi Genevieve, you are my aspiration. You are an icon to me, and I will never forget about you. My question are the following:
    -what is your favourite colour?
-what type of music do you like?
    -Can i see you?

I am not nigerian, and I have never been in Nigeria, however i am coming to Nigeria next summer just to look for you although my parents and family think that it would be very stupid for to do so. yes I do intend to come with my mum as she is the only one supporting me about this. She knows how crazy i am about you.

Nigeria movie industry is not worth $250,000,000, the Nigeria moves are medioca at best, some Nigeria movies can be acted in 3 days at most and they actors are poorly paid, they are paid $500 tops for the best actors and the word maybe $20, i dont know why an international link like CNN cant do its own research and expose the Nigeria movies for what they are.
The Nigeria music industry is world standard, please lets get our fact right, nollywood is rubbish.

But what is still drilling a hole in my heart is that i realy want to see you guyz do it alongside those in holyhood such as, Angelima Jollie, Queen Latifah, Nicole Kidman, Will Smith, Chris Rock and so many others. Hi Genevieve,

I am Blaise Buma, a Cameroonian studying here in the United States.

I appreciate your talents and the skills coming from Nollywood. Nollywood is indeed doing a great job for Africa and promoting our culture.

When I was a child, Nigerian movies had a great appeal to me and most of my friends. However, when I came of age, I notice they didn't have as much appeal to me anymore because there is hardly any sophistication and the movies revolve around the same themes over the years; love and relationships, sex, money and power.

I have two questions for you:

1 – Are there any plans to move beyond these mundane story lines and produce sophisticated and compelling movies that do not only appeal to kids and less educated people but also to well educated people?

2 – Why has Nollywood and actors and actresses like you not stepped up efforts to use movies to raise awareness on issues plaguing Africa such as AIDS, human rights abuses, corruption, bad governance, wars, etc.? For example, a movie or documentary on the crises in parts of Africa, such as Darfur, Somalia, Zimbabwe or even the Niger Delta can help people, especially the western audience to better understand these conflicts, why they happen, and what can be done.

    Thanks.

    Hello Genny,
    I must first start by saying that I love your skills. YIu gave me the inspiration to want to be an actress and be good at. But, I have a couple of questions I will like to ask you;
    1) Do you think that the new trend in African movies where women bear their bodies all in the name of being on t.v. is appropriate?
    2) As a household name in the industry, do you think there is anything you can do to pass on the message to the script wrights and producers out there that we still love being African and will very much appreciate it if our African movies stop being westernized?
    3) What advice do you have to give to young aspiring actresses who have the talent but are not given the opportunity to showcase it because they are not beautiful or attractive enough to be leading lady on screen?
    4) Genny what are your interest as an individual, aside from being an actress?
    Love you Genevieve Nnaji,

Hi Genevieve. You are indeed a star. I want to commend you and the other African actors who have tried to raise the standard of the acting business. Though we still have some very poor productions still coming out of Africa (actually the same every where in the world), but it is indeed pleasing that very few like are are from Africa. I cant wait to see some of you on the small screen in Hollywood. Please, I want to ask if your clothing line is available everywhere in Nigeria. Thank you

    Hi Genevive,.

As a star actress in Nigerian Nollywood, do you think that Nollywood can be compared effectively with Hollywood in years to come considering the fact that Nollywood produces more movies in month than Hollywood.

    I am writing from Norway.

Hi Genevive, which of your movies you classify the best? Has there been any time in your life as an actress, you had felt you should quit the profession. What does it take to be a movie star in Nollywood? And finally who are those other Nollywood stars that inspire you greatly. One more question, in the Cameroonian parlance, we say: one for the road: Have you ever lived or visited Cameroon before your acting career?

    Stay blessed.

    Hi Genevieve,

As a Nigerian, I have watched since I was a child, literally and have continued to do so for the past seven years that I have been in the U.S. I admire you a lot. My questions to you is: what is your stand on the infiltration of other movies industries and actors (specifically Ghana) to the Nigerian movie industry. Do you feel that they're taking over the roles and jobs needed by very qualified Nigerians being that we are the most populous nation in African.

Secondly, what do you see as your role as a Nigerian actress in being a mentor and role model for young girls in Nigeria. Do you think actresses have a huge role, and what's your take on the constant conflict between celebrities in Nigeria. yay or nay? Thanks girl, and you are gorgeous.

hi genny, there has been a recent lull in the production of high quality nollywood movies in nigeria.this can be attributed mainly to a glut in the market as producers churn out film after film. you wonder how many movies viewers can watch!i wanna ask why nollywood producers make so many movies most of which are of the same story lines and what stars like you are doing about the quality of films that nollywood brings out

Genny, you are one person I respect and cherish so much in Nollywood, I just have one question to ask.Wat do you say to those producers who produce a movie which has no ending. I don't see any sense in producing a movie with part 1,2,3,4 and most times 5. Joy Uche, from Imo State, Nigeria.

    Hi Gevevieve,

    1. Some of us believe that the quality of movies produced in Nollywood is mediocre compared to Hollywood and Bollywood. What's your take on this? And in what ways do you believe the industry could improve?

    2. What movies would you classify as the best to come out of Nollywood in particular and Africa in general?

    3. The music videos being produced in Nigeria have attained a high degree of quality both in directing, recording media and all? Why haven't we affected the quality of Nollywood productions?

Thank you and I wish the best in your career and personal life.

How do you remain true to whom you are Ms Nnaji?

I'm writing from Seattle Washington, and u may know me as Nanie. Just like many African & African-American kids, I watched you transform and grow from Grass to Grace when it comes to your work, and popularity.

Now that you are in a position to make a difference, Ms Nnaji, how are u trying to positively, and humbly affect the lives of the children of Nigeria. I say children because I have checked and seen that millions of them love and look up to you.

Thank you very much for your time, and thank you for continuing to represent, I know I don't need to tell you or remind you, but " I wu Ezibo Nwa. Otwo i wey eme o we gi, gae mea ha mara na ndi anyi, bu ezigbo mmadu. And chukwu na gozi anyi. "

Take care Ms. Nnaji. As many have said she is an international, especially our African star. I have learnt that the Liberians & Nigerians can argue about eating Garri with soup or Rice with soup, but the will Always unite, appreciate and agree with Genevieve Nnaji 🙂

With your talent, intellect and classic good looks (you remind me of those screen goddesses from the 50's and 60's).

Breaking into Hollywood as an actress is the least i think you deserve.

perhaps seeking out alliances may be the way...

    My questions are:
What gave you the courage to move on with life after the birth of your child because most ladies would have taken that as their fate and end it there?
Do you have any plan as part of your social responsibility to encourage ladies and women to rise up to challenges of life and become what they really want to be?

Hello, I'm sending this mail from Port Harcourt Nigeria. Some tabloids in the conutry here, captions so many implicit messages to their readers and they fail to disclose who and who are involved in those obnoxious acts. But they go ahead to incite curiosity in the mind of their readers by saying the actresses are from your local government! I mean, I'm not a TV star but I can only imagine how troubling this news will sound in your ears but personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd feel bad! How do you react to these kind of captions? Especially when they are now in national tabloids?

I admire you a lot. My
    questions : what is your
stand on the infiltration of other
    movies industries and actors
    in Nigerian
movie industry. Do you feel that
they ’re taking over the roles and
    jobs needed by very qualified
Nigerians being that we are the
    most populous nation in African.
Secondly, what do you see as your
role as a Nigerian actress in being
a MENTOR and ROLE MODEL for
young girls in Nigeria. Do you
think actresses have a huge role,
and what ’s your take on the
    constant conflict between
celebrities in Nigeria. How many LIVES have you CHANGED POSITIVELY? how can we stop child tracfficking & prostitution in nigeria? what will u give back to NIGERIA for the LOVE & SUPPORT they gave u?most cele talks about their children are u ashamed of ur daughter? how u intend to create job opportunity for the jobless? try to make ur fans happy.

    Hi Genevieve,

I admire the way you carry yourself while on screen. You have shown that you are different from other nollywood female actresses who seek attention by being nude or vulgar. I commend you to keep it up, as alot of people are looking up to you (role model).
However, it is a bit worrying that your are not married. As you know our culture frowns upon single parent and single female etc.... It is not the lifestyle in Africa. Alot of the Nigerian celebraties seems to be embracing the western culture of divorce and leading seperate lives, but that is not ideal. Our culture is very precious and must be preserved. I will advice you to find a man and get married. Marriage will not take away from your tenacity and resillient to achieve more in your career. Rather it will even boost you up to higher heights. Please do not encourage this independent woman slogan by your life style, as it is only the thinking of small minded woman. An independent woman, should work hard and yet still cleave onto her man for comfort. As a highly successful career woman living in the UK, I am happily married to a highly successful man, and as they saying goes "two good heads are better than one".
Do you do personal appearances? As my hubby and I are planning a party back home in Nigeria (Imo state), and we would like to have you at this party.
Take care and keep the flag flying.

As a role model in your career, it's not doubtful that you are on top of your world. You career impacts directly on people and people too are the benefactors of your career's growth.

    1. What are the people oriented projects or foundations did you or intend to put in place aiming at changing the world of some particular people? Because to whom much is given much is expected, hence it's expect that you give back to them that have so much supported and encouraged your uprising.

    2. Most of you the present celebrities who are the early entrants into the Nollywood had easy entry. It is now quit difficulty for potentially talented younger ones to get into the industry. What are the measures do you intend to put in place towards simplifying the entry processes (i.e. career development) for the Nigerian youths?.

I am a strong fan of Genevieve Nnaji writing from Nigeria.
