Six Degrees: Yukio Hatoyama to Peter Jackson

September 1st, 2009
02:08 PM ET

It's that time of the week again!

Get your thinking caps on, we're handing down our Six Degrees challenge.

All you need to do is connect two newsmakers who have hit the headlines in six moves.

This week we want you to link Yukio Hatoyama, the soon-to-be new Prime Minister of Japan whose party won election in a landslide over the weekend...  to Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings films and the producer of new alien box-office hit "District 9."

Leave your submissions in the comments section below, and the team will pick the most creative connection, and I'll announce the winner on Friday's show.

Still need some inspiration? Check this out ...

One of our recent winners was Sally from the UK, who connected superstar runner Usain Bolt to Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai. Here’s how she did it …

Usain Bolt has trained with...

football star Cristiano Ronaldo, who played for Portugal under...

Luiz Felipe Scolari, who managed a Brazil team that included...

Teddy Sheringham, who played for Tottenham Hotspur under...

Jurgen Klinsmann, who has been interviewed by...

Becky Anderson, who has also interviewed...

Hamid Karzai.

Reckon you can do better? Then try your hand at connecting Yukio Hatoyama and Peter Jackson. Remember: you need five other people between those two: no more, no less. If you want your friends to take the challenge as well, then click the "share post" button below.

To see previous challenges, click here. Happy connecting!

    Well this is tough one:

Helen Clark, former prime minister of New Zealand, has met with Yukio Hatoyama before he was elected prime minister(http://www.mofa.go.jp/region/asia-paci/nz/pmv0104/outline.html)

Peter Jackson, a New Zealander himself, has met with Helen Clark at numerous events over the years.

    Maureen. This is off-topic.
Although imdb lists "The Valley" as the directorial debut of Peter Jackson; the horror movie "Bad Taste" is his first full length film.
Heavenly Creatures is Kate Winslet's debut on the big screen.

    Nice Job Sally H!
Best six-degrees I've seen for awhile.

I also don't take much stock in those that go the 'INTERVIEWED BY' route. It's just too easy to link any famous person to any other using 'interviewed by'.

    Six degrees? How about 2?

Yukio Hatoyama represents the 9th District, or District 9, of Hokkaido in the House of Representatives. District 9 is the name of the movie Jackson recently produced.

Or for one more along the lines of the game...

Hatoyama’s maternal grandfather is Shojiro Ishibashi, the founder of BRIDGESTONE CORPORATION.
Bridgestone is currently the world’s largest tire manufacturer, ahead of number two Michelin and number three GOODYEAR.
Goodyear was one of the sponsors on Tom Cruise’s car in the film DAYS OF THUNDER.
Days of Thunder was produced by JERRY BRUCKHEIMER.
Jerry Bruckheimer also produces the Pirates of the Caribbean series, staring ORLANDO BLOOM as Will Turner.
Orlando Bloom also stars as Legolas in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, directed by PETER JACKSON.

jJst thought I'd clear up the confusion re my winning entry to the 6 degrees competition on 21st August which was as follows:

USAIN BOLT – visited Manchester in May 09, and had a training session with
CRISTIANO RONALDO – who played for Portugal under the management of
LUIZ FELIPE SCOLARI – who was the manager of Brazil, when they beat England in the 2002 World Cup, which was the final appearance for England by
TEDDY SHERINGHAM – who played for Tottenham Hotspur alongside
JURGEN KLINSMANN – who has been interviewed by
BECKY ANDERSON – of CNN, who has also interviewed

As you can see....I did not have Teddy playing for Brazil !!

    Best wishes
