Thursday's Connector of the Day: Hugh Hefner

Most men would probably say that he's the luckiest guy in the world - it's a title that Hugh Hefner still lives to at 83 years of age.

caption="What do you want to ask Hugh Hefner?"]

Sometimes known simply as "Hef", the founder of Playboy Magazine and head of Playboy Enterprises has turned his love of women, politics and popular culture into a multi-million dollar company.

Hefner founded Playboy in 1953 and the first issue was produced from the kitchen of his mother's apartment in Chicago.

The first issue sold out in weeks and the magazine became an instant hit. Playboy peaked in 1972 with over 7 million copies sold.

The Playboy centerfold became synonymous with sex appeal and celebrities including Farrah Fawcett, Drew Barrymore and Kim Basinger all appeared in the magazine.

Although many people associate Hugh Hefner as the ultimate bachelor, he was actually married in 1949 and had two children. However, after an admission of infidelity by his wife, the couple divorced ten years later.

Today, Hefner is still enjoying his life as a bachelor and is notorious for dating many of his playboy playmates at a time.

Whether you agree with his lifestyle or not, Hugh Hefner has been the ultimate "playboy" for more than half a century.

Here's your chance to ask Hugh Hefner a question.

Do you want to know what life is really like inside the Playboy mansion? Maybe you want to know who his favorite playmate of all time is? What's the future of the magazine?

Please leave your questions below and tell us where you're writing from. Tune in on Thursday March 19 at 2100 GMT to see if we used your question.

Other than beautiful and sexy and useful for selling your magazine, what is your opinion of women? What is it that makes a woman beautiful in your eyes - enhancements? Sense of humor? Brains?

I saw someone who looked a lot like you, touring the ruins at Delphi, Greece, in 2005. Was that you by any chance? This man seemed to be all alone, just enjoying the scenery.

You seem to be an extrovert who enjoys being surrounded by a lot of people, but perhaps that is just an image you wish to convey. Do you ever yearn for solitude?

    Just curious,

I saw the History Channel program on Playboy Magazine not too long ago; It kind of presented you as a fellow who was able to pursue a certain philosophy and thereby live your life exactly in the manner you desired. It had to be more difficult than that. What were the rough patches? When did you feel like giving up and pursuing another career..and if never, why?

    Will you?

    Mr Hefner.
Making life till your in your 80's sure must feel great. I have been aware
of "Playboy"since my early years. My uncle even had the "Monroe" edition.
I often would hear in the media how destructive porn is to women. I am
someone interested in criminalogically minded peoples.
Often killers of women would make the statements how porn had affected
them to look as women as things not a human being,
In these days Mr. Hefner. Do you see or deny any truth to this claim.?

I am not saying your publication is a source of violent actions toward women. Please understand that..

Why dont you leave the expensive life you have been living for so many years, and live like an ordinary man now at this age, selling your estates and your business and donating all your money to poor people around the world. I think God will be pleased if you do it and will bless you.

Well ,now its the payback time to society at large . Think about it and

    Mr. Hefner:

I have to respect the courage of any celebrity willing to stand
in front of a gauntlet of questions, any of which could be critical
or insulting. I wish you well, but your empire, your influence
leaves me uncomfortable. How does one for example reconcile
a loosening up of the national closet attitude toward sexuality
which was in place when you started against the exploitation
of women in the soft pornography of gate folds?

Also, how, finally does one grow old in a world where aging
is covered up as if it were not allowed?

Those are good questions. Best of luck

The magazine reached its circulation peak 28 years ago (long before the current Playmates were born!), and it now sells a small fraction of the copies it once did. In fact, you've recently dropped down to publishing only 10 issues a year. Almost no retail outlets carry it, and newsstand sales are negligible. The quality of the contents has plummeted, and it's losing money with every issue. Under those circumstances, how much longer can it remain a viable enterprise?
