The 22 year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico, surprised the pageant world with her victory with many expecting the winner to emerge from Ireland, Venezuela or the United States.
Dressed in her ruby-red gown she accepted her applause before giving a series of bows to the cheering crowd. The diamond-encrusted tiara atop her head is not her only prize as she will receive a year’s scholarship to a New York film academy and a supply of shoes, clothes and make-up.
Her desire is to help fight HIV/AIDs and breast cancer around the world, she told the judges in the glitzy venue in Las Vegas, which appeared to sit well with Donald Trump, the owner of the Miss universe franchise.
Being the public eye is not new to Ximena, who has been a model since she was 15, but has always wanted to study nutritional science.
Did you see Miss Universe? Do you think the pageant means anything? Would you like to be crowned Miss Universe?
