Live from Abu Dhabi Connect the World takes you on a journey across continents, investigating the stories that are changing our world.
On screen Hugh Grant is one of Hollywood's most charming leading-men, but it's what he does off screen that is getting lots of attention.
Grant's mother died of pancreatic cancer and today he is putting his energies towards helping similar sufferers of this disease.
He is teaming up with the charity – http://www.healthtalkonline.org – which is an online site where one can share real experiences of dealing with these painful medical conditions.
On the 15th of March, a new section of the charity's site will go live that will start with Grant talking about his own family's experience with his mother.
He is also launching a campaign to raise a mile of pound coins vauled at around $116,000.
Here's your chance to quiz Hugh Grant on this important initiative.
Please leave your questions for him below and be sure to tell us where you're writing from.
why do you think its important that people see the stories from real life people and real experiences?
how do you think these sorts of initiatives help in the fight against cancer?
pancreatic cancer isn't really that well known - how important is educating the public about it?
why are you trying to raise a mile of pound coins? what the significant of that?
from Birmingham.
As you know, pancreatic cancer has no cure and limited effected treatments available. Although basic researach has made considerable gains in understanding the mechanism of this disease, the real medical hurdle is getting this knowledge product to clinical trials. Presently it is difficult to transfer the new medical developments into the clinic due to the lack of incentitive to the medical system, potential pharma/bio companies and researchers with the pancreatic cancer patient being affected the most. Would your charity consider establishing an "incentitive fund" for clinical trials on new treatments and more importantly, would Mr Grant be the voice and/or champion on this effort ? Your attention to this issue would provide the needed attention for action to occur. What better way to honor your mother's memory than to seek a cure for others to live!
To what use are the funds going to be used? Improved diagnosis or general research into the disease? I have never heard of anyone recovering from Pancreatic cancer. Patrick Swayze, for example, being a well publicized case who finally succumbed having fought so bravely. While I applaud your involvement I would like to know the general aims and objects of the fund.
I have just lost a dear friend who battled courageously for eighteen months with this heinous disease. I am sorry for your loss, too. What are the ultimate goals of your charity? How can we compel the medical world to work harder at finding a cure for pancreatic cancer?
As a Diabetic of more than 50 years with a diabetic daughter, I am naturally interested in anything related to the pancreas. However, I would like to know that you are doing everything possible to ensure that the money you raise from individuals is Gift Aided. This way it can be increased by at least 25% and by clever use of the rules by as much as 100% – i.e. it will be worth DOUBLE. If you, or anyone else would like to know more, drop me an email at bg@gain.me.uk
I applaud your desire to share your time and energy for a cause.
If I understood right, your end goal is to establish a forum where patients and families can share and exchange their everyday experiences related to this disease; try to find answers to the questions that are not usually addresed by medical professionals.
I am not undermining the impact of this emotional support . But, i think that you should expand the scope to provide physical and financial support too. Just having a shoulder to lean on is not enough for these families, they need resources for getting through the day.
Hello Hugh Grant and CNN friends,
I would like an answer from Hugh Grant on the following questions:
– How will the charity – http://www.healthtalkonline.org – Improve our World Resistance Against Sexually Transmitted Human Papilloma Viruses Cervical and Other Sexual Organs Cancer Diseases?
– What can we expect from you in 2011?
I am awaiting Hugh Grant’s replies.
