Seth Berkley is at the forefront of finding a vaccine for HIV/AIDS.

Since early on his career, the New York born medical doctor has been dedicated to fighting suffering around the world.

A renowned globe-trotter he has trekked through remote parts of Tibet and Namibia, travelled by camel through rebel-controlled territory in western Sudan and documented the worst famine ever scientifically evaluated in history.

A leading epidemiologist, Berkley worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States and in 1996, he founded the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI).

Just three years after setting up the non-profit organization, Berkley was named on Time’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in The World.

He was also recently named at the new Chief Executive Officer of the GAVI Alliance, a global health partnership championed by Bill Gates.

At GAVI he will be overseeing an ambitious mission to save the lives of millions of children by increasing access to vaccines in poor countries.
