Stars shine at the BAFTA awards

It was a wet and soggy night on the BAFTA red carpet tonight but hey, what’s a couple of hours in the sleet and snow when the payoff is a squeeze from George Clooney and a song from Hugh Jackman! The British film industry’s big night out is second only in prestige to the Academy Awards – what happens in London sets the stage for what’s to come in two weeks' time at the Oscars. I’d expect no surprises in the Leading Actor category with red-carpet royalty Daniel Day-Lewis, who picked up the coveted best-man BAFTA gong here, likely to take home a history-making third Oscar for his role as Lincoln. Ben Affleck’s the man to watch for the other biggies after nabbing both Best Director and Best Film in London, my hunch is that he’ll be crowned for both in the somewhat sunnier climes of Los Angeles, California at the end of Feb.

From a tired but very happy anchor it is a VERY good evening. Good night – and god bless!
